From London to New York: LCCA students explore fashion’s sustainable future

At LCCA, our students experience industry first-hand – this time through workshops and networking with global leaders at New York Climate Week.

This September, students from London College of Contemporary Arts (LCCA) travelled to New York to take part in events organised by The NAT, a cultural initiative that brings together business and creative voices to accelerate climate solutions. Held during New York Climate Week, the programme gave LCCA students the chance to see first-hand how global conversations on climate action connect to fashion, technology and innovation.

For the group, the experience was a chance to move beyond academic study and engage directly with organisations such as Mastercard, Salesforce and UNICEF. Workshops explored circular design, digital tools to reduce supply chain waste, and shifting consumer expectations in an age of climate awareness.

“Being in the room with professionals from global organisations who are leading conversations on sustainable futures really opened my eyes,” said one student. “It showed me just how interconnected fashion is with all sectors of business.”

Networking sessions also placed the group in conversation with industry professionals working on future-facing strategies in fashion, design and technology. Another student reflected: “I never imagined I’d get to speak face-to-face with professionals of this calibre so early in my career. It’s given me a much bigger vision for my future.”

Alongside the events, students visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and

Mercer Labs, reinforcing the links between history, creativity and innovation.

For those who joined, the experience was not just about attending workshops, but about seeing themselves as part of the global conversations shaping fashion’s sustainable future. As one student put it: “My experience in New York really put what I’ve been doing in my studies into context. The workshops showed me how we, as emerging professionals, can help shape a more sustainable and ethical industry.”

This trip is just one example of what studying at LCCA is all about: learning that doesn’t just prepare you for the industry but puts you right in the middle of it.
